Embrace the Calm with TEDx on International Day of the Girl

If there is anyone deserving of serenity, it’s the brilliant girls in urban communities who are powerful beyond grasp, yet underprivileged and under-represented. These are the girls who are parentless and precocious— but not by choice. They’re dealt a cumbersome hand of responsibilities spread heavy, while patience, time and even love is spread thin. Before they’re even ready, they’re thrusted into the role of caregiver for younger siblings . These are the young women in shelters, broken homes—and the list goes on. They deserve peace.

I was gifted with the opportunity to host "Girl Zen," a philanthropic pop up wellness experience for girls and women, in honor of International Day of the Girl. It was powered by social impact agency, NOVA Inspires, in partnership with TEDx. The girls were showered with gems on confidence, leadership and tenacity as we indulged in affirmations, meditation and healthy woman-to-girl mentorship.
